Republic Day

India is a tapestry woven with diverse cultures, religions, traditions, and customs, embarking on its remarkable journey of evolution on 15th August 1947. The adoption of the Constitution on 26th January 1950 marked a pivotal moment in this journey. To honour the sovereignty of our Republic on 26th January, Maharashtra Mandal London will host a Flag Hoisting ceremony at our Mandal, graced by the presence of Shri Manmeet Singh Narang, Minister for Coordination at the High Commission of India in London. A video capturing this significant event will be shared on the HCI website, contributing to our celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The significance of India’s Independence is deeply intertwined with the history of Maharashtra Mandal London. Between 1930 and 1932, prominent figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Narasimha Chintaman Kelkar were invited to the UK by the British Government to participate in round table conferences aimed at discussing India’s aspirations for self-governance. As these conferences drew to a close in the winter of 1932, Maharashtra Mandal London was established by Dr. Ambedkar, Kelkar, and other distinguished individuals, with the mission of supporting the Indian community residing in the UK.

We warmly invite you to attend the Flag Hoisting Ceremony, should your schedule permit. Light refreshments will be offered for your enjoyment.
